day 1
in a very early morning I went to airport and met all my 3 friends. they had a breakfast at Starbucks and with our morning face, we ate while waiting for boarding. after we got in Singapore around 12 pm, we took MRT to boon keng station in little india. because it's the first time we went together as a group of traveller (the one who been experienced about traveling is yukino, meet our backpacker!) so, it's kinda confusing because we looked up the map and tried finding our hostel which were across the MRT station. GAH! Thank god you gave thyla a pair of great eyes. she could see the sign so far away across us! hahaha. so we checked in then we decided to walk along the little india and tried to find food. it's pretty amazing to discover little india, because all i know about tourist areas in singapore are chinatown or orchard. we tried the banana leaf restaurant with a little bit ridiculous false reading map and we walked and walked until we could get on anymore. so it was getting dark, we took a break at Mustafa Center and found a roti prata restaurant behind it. it's a great place to sit and hang out and the foods were not expensive. great to hang out at there. we spent the rest of evening there and we went back to hostel.
day 2
I bought a great travel guide book a long time ago in Gramedia Bookstore Jakarta it's called "surprising thing to do in Singapore" and that book's awesome! we decided to go explore more like said in the book. there're places in singapore from the book that extremely beautiful and very forest. and without more thinking we strolled to Buona Vista. we tried to find hortpark, but when we arrived at buona vista MRT station, we asked the security there and they told us we need to take the circle line and take the stop near Hortpark. okay so we went there. When we arrived it was pretty shocking because the places was like office neighborhood sort of. and if you compare with jakarta, it would be our business district in Sudirman. We got the city map near the station and followed the sign to Hortpark. Until we found a huge steel bridge there. What a wonderful things in such area. So we strolled to that bridge but we found nothing but bench. until our map person, Yukino, looking around and found another map that includes every park near around that. they are Hortpark, Which is the bridge, and South Bridge via Forest Walk, and Henderson Wave and others that I can't remember. So we walked through a very long bridge to find Henderson Waves. And it took like 9km or more, So long. I can't even remember how hurt it was. we were running out of water, we were wearing wrong outfit for forest walk. so hideous. hahaha, but it was so fun. until almost 2 hours walking we got there! HENDERSON WAVES! so, we spent almost an hour taking pictures on that beautiful bridge. After that we decided to back, but it almost lunch so we decided to find a way out. We walked down the forest (again) until we found the end of the forest and big road and big Mall. finally, we had lunch and strolled back again to buy MRT tickets.
Now, because it was around 2 or 3 PM. We decided not coming back to Hostel. We took route to Marina Bay and we went to Art Science Museum. Fortunately, we arrived when they're having Eames Exhibition. Charles and Ray Eames, they were futuristic couple whose designs were applicable until now in Architectural and Furniture Design. and It was so breathtaking. we enjoyed it, because the museum was about to close at 5 PM so, we couldn't finish until the next floor but we enjoyed that Art Science Museum, it cost S$15 but you got everything you need. and I got my eyes on Space Food, the seller was so articulate and he could sell that Space Food for S$60 each and I bought 2. I'm a curious person, at least I don't have to be an astronaut to know how it taste like. it was Ice Cream for Astronauts. and it's great. considering renny hand't been there yet so I saved it for renny. After that we decided to go to Orchard road, it was quite night. Very Crowded.
We were looking for a shop where Tia and Renny could buy Kanken Bag. Thyla who's the one first buyer, she knew it and led our way in the middle of the crowd. And we ate S$1 ice cream there, the bread and the ice cream, the famous one. and tia got appointment, just a casual appointment with her cousin who lives there. until, tia and tila got stuck at H&M. thyla who wore an ankle boots through forest walk, had ruined her shoes and she decided to buy a new one. we went there for Laneway and shoes already got ruined? oh my god.
then, I was messaging with my friend, Dimas Putra, Who's happening in his way to somerset. So, I waited for him and his brother (well, cousin). they were planning to take a walk and we asked them to join us having some roti prata in little india and they came. after eating in little india, dimas and his cousin went separately with us, because we (the girls) were already so so so tired. and I felt so bad about my eyes which were suddenly got swollen. what a night. Well, along we walked back to hostel, we bought Apples for Our breakfast next morning.
day 3
The day has come! Laneway!
but yeah, my eyes got worse but it would never took me down. hahaha
okay so, we woke up early well not so early about 9 or 8 i forgot. we decided to go to Bugis before we went to Garden by The bay that day. because we were just curious about Bugis street. Well, we took MRT to Bugis. and we walked around, because of the heat because it was nearly 11.30 or something, We decided to eat first before we took MRT to Garden by The bay. we tried arabian cuisine (Well, again because they only have that i guess) haha, okay according to the book, Bugis has a lot of place to buy clothes but unfortunately we're not there for shopping so we kept going. after we ate and ready to go, we took MRT and Go Laneway!
LANEWAY!
okay, here's the day of anxiety. why? because our friend, Renny, Who took flight to singapore alone and it was the first time she went to singapore would suppose to be at venue by 5. okay days before, we already gave her hint how to take MRT and the tracks to Marina Bay. so we just could hope she kept us informed about her position. okay, so we arrived at the meadow, Garden by the bay around 1 PM and when we got there, it was performance by the Jezabels, they were firing up the heat. for the record, I might not a big fan of them but they are actually pretty good. so, after that continued to UMO, me and yukino stayed under the sun, feeling the heat and wearing sun glasses. tried to find waters. and we were lying down on the rug well not rug it was just a thin cover brought by tia. tia and thyla went to front side of the stage. All I can say, Laneway festival was amazing, first because the venue was in the huge meadow and with S$153 you could watch international artists. that was very amazing experience. so, here's the most scariest part.
renny sent me a message that she already arrived which means good. she took MRT and she gave us a call several times, until she informed us that she didn't know where she was. she said, "I think I'm lost. maybe I should ask someone?" then, suddenly, because she was still using indonesian's phone number and she called me several times. her credits in that account phone number was running out. then with out credits left, she couldn't be phoned and call us. that's the craziest part. we were queuing to get some fashion illustation by H&M illustrators. then, I was panic. and I got an idea for calling Renny's sister in indonesia. I asked her to transfer for some credits to Renny's Phone account immediately. it was almost 6 and Jagwar Ma who was eventually just Jono Ma was going on stage. and it was almost Daughter too. that was so crazy, until I got called by Renny!
Thank god! she was already in and she came to us! GOD. it was terrifying to think she was lost in the middle singapore. she said,"suddenly, I got credits transferred to my account." she laughed. we laughed. then we decided separating, Yukino, Renny and I were going to see Jono Ma. Tila and Tia would see daughter, then we were back together again from Chvrches until the end of the show. it was amazing, I finally saw HAIM and James Blake. Well, I was so exciting to see Jagwar Ma but unfortunately Gabriel was sick so Just Jono. But I do love Jono Ma. and he was even great even alone. Too bad Laneway singapore didn't have King Krule in its Line up. I'm expecting to see king krule next time.
well, that night was unforgettable. we were planning to watch music festival again sometimes. maybe a little traveling ideas like forest walk could be more unforgettable. so it was around 11.30 PM something, we were intending to take MRT but unfortunately when we had to change in Chinatown, We missed the last train. so we were confused, helpless in the middle of nowhere. we found 2 men, around our age, indonesian too. they missed the MRT too. but they didn't go to little india. we decided to divide into 2 groups and took a cab. Tia and Me got a first cab, and thank god I got Indonesian Taxi driver. he, I forgot the name, told us to do when we go to chinatown. what to eat and I had a little chat with him. that was so good to meet people from your country. he could speak javanese so I could do a little act as a javanese ahahhaa. so he couldn't play with me. So we arrived in Little India area, it was so late. We're so exhausted. So we all arrived at Hostel and rest. Tia and Thyla had early morning flight not really early but quite early for us considering our journey from lane way.
Day 4
Okay so, after tia and thyla had gone as soon as we woke up. Me, Renny and Yuki were quite starving because it's at noon. so we decided to go exploring another museum, Toy Museum. We were passing by the Singapore National Library and looking for the museum. and we got stuck at heaven of books, so basically it was unexpected. we're about to cross the street and suddenly, I forgot who's yelling, "LOOK THAT'S AN ANTIQUE BOOKSTORE!" it was at Bugis If i'm not wrong, around bugis area maybe.
So we almost spent our day at there because the book were so cheap, those are second-hand book btw. but they have like whole bunch of books, from kids until indescribable ages ahahahha.
okay so, we spent a lot of time in there until we got tired looking all those books. so we bought some books and continued finding the toy museum. eventually, we asked a man who passed by and you know what? we actually passed it few times. but unfortunately the museum was about to close so we decided not to spend S$15 for like 30 minutes.
next, we were heading to Botanical Garden. so we took MRT to Botanical Garden and the entrance gate was right in front of the station. it was about 5 or 5.30 pm. so we spent our evening there enjoying bench and chatting plus laughing. it was so random, yuki talked about her books that she bought earlier and renn talked about her thesis was about to come. I was talking about what? I can't remember. so we took photos, I sent it to my mom. and after it got dark, we decided to go to a place that would be very crowded because people were celebrating Chinese New Year. Chinatown!
we took MRT to Chinatown, and TA-DA! the crowd could be seen as soon as we popped out from Chinatown MRT station. it was very very crowded and we were like very confuse. All sellers were yelling, the street was full by people passing by. And thank god we got a chance to buy some sweets at Confectionery which was written in the book. it was pretty nice, even tough I found it hard to adjust with Chinatown because when we're looking for dinner all menus were written in Mandarin and the banners only showed the price, the mandarin text and the photo. it was crazy. and after that, we decided to go back.
Day 5
so the day when we're back! it was monday and we'd checked out from hostel and were looking for meals. still got a few hours to catch up so relax, it was surprising that we didn't explore much around the right side the hostel. because it was like chinatown near little india hahaha. oh my god, silly us. so we ate noodles, quite hard to communicate with the chef lady because we said we're vegetarian and we didn't want meat in our noodles. she spoke in a high pitch and I couldn't understand when she said "eat here?" HAHAH but I could fix it. so we finished our noodles and heading to Changi.
when we arrived at Changi, there's another problem. The flight was cancelled! oh my god. come on, tiger! they didn't gave any informations and announcements a day before. so we're in the middle of panic, because I had to go home that day, the situation became kinda sour, the airline counter didn't know when exactly next flight, it could be tomorrow morning or maybe next day. it was disaster. I got called from my angry mom and I need to get back. I gotta go to Indonesia. So, thank god my friend, dimas (remember?) told me he took a flight with another airline at about 5 PM and it was still 2.45 PM. my problem is I need to get back, but for rehnnee and yuki it was no problem to wait another flight because the had plenty of time. okay, so I took sky train to terminal 3 Changi and heading straight to GA counter. I bought the new ticket and soon met dimas. so problem's solved! I finally got back to Jakarta!
well, it was my first time planning a trip together with my friends and it was incredibly challenging. HAHA a lot of fun, laneway festival is unforgettable and also the experiences with friends. so great. I hope I can plan a trip again with these guys somewhere fun! These pictures below are drawn on my magic book as well as my travel journal. thanks guys!
